Welcome, all, to our weekly open thread for Hackerspace, as usual, brought to you by the fine folks at Lifehacker. Today is Veteran’s Day in the United States and Remembrance Day around the world. This is a time to honor those who served in our military.
So, at this time, I’ll share with you all a small thing, a little tiny personal. My dad wears his Vietnam Veteran hat all of the time. I love him very dearly, but I have never heard him speak about his time there. I’ve always wondered, but my respect for him is too large to pry into things he doesn’t speak about openly. He’s a good person, a great dad, and a person I honor in my heart.
Back at my house, we are cleaning out a room to give my daughter her own bedroom. We’ve started cleaning out the room, which was the play room before. The paint color is a topic of discussion, as she wants pink, but my wife is thinking a light blue. The shelves need to come out. We may change the light fixture to something more chandelier. And, we want to put in some sound proofing. We expect to be done around January.
And, in case you missed it, the federal parks that normally charge for entrance fees are free on Veteran’s Day. We are taking advantage of this for ourselves and having a picnic after a little hiking.
But, enough about me. Let’s talk about projects we are working on, say hi to friends, and ask for help for things we want to accomplish.
Serious mod note: We recognize that we in the United States have recently concluded an election marked by bitter divisions. Throughout our existence, Hackerspace, as a reader-run community, has only been strengthened by your willingness to come together and support one another. Thank you for being “some of the most helpful people on the internet.” We hope that you (and we) will continue to be so for many years to come!
