Using GNURoot, a user may install Fedora 23 onto a non-rooted, high-end, Android phone.

User nmilosev, says that he is able to run Fedora 23 on his LG SD801 with LXDE as the desktop environment.

Linux development on Android phones is still buggy and requires a phone with some upper-tier specs, but the OS appears to run on top of Android’s Linux kernel. Aside from some overheating, there is little to lose from trying this (other than time, of course).
