Use These Healthy And Delicious Recipes In Place Of Your Naughty Favs

The thing about eating healthy is that you’re never really starting from square one. You already know what you like, you just need to find a way to put a healthy twist to it. These are three starter substitutions for some of my favorite meals and snacks, and probably some of yours too. You'll find these to be far less of a health hazard than your traditional favorites, and equally as delicious in most cases. If they turn out close to taste but not quite right, that’s where the fun begins. Now you get to figure out how to tweak them, keep them healthy, and make them as yummy (if not better) than their evil twins.

Mexican Sweet Potato Skins

Today my favorite comes first, even though I have to tone down the spice a bit when I make it. I was honestly never a big fan of traditional potato skins to begin with. I also wasn’t a big fan of sweet potatoes either. I've learned since that it’s not about the food item, it’s about how it’s prepared. This preparation of a sweet potato is perfect. Not only are these sweet potato skins mouth watering, they’re also packed with healthy ingredients instead of the same old simple carb potato, fatty bacon, and sour cream. It’s an awesome alternative

Mac and Cheese Spaghetti Squash

Yet another thing that taught me it’s about the preparation, not the food. I used to think I hated any type of squash, then I tried spaghetti squash as a substitution for spaghetti noodles a year ago. I’ve sworn by it since. I haven’t tried this specific recipe yet but both the picture and the ingredients look like the perfect substitution for the good ol’ Mac and Cheese. I will be trying it this weekend, so if you want to know how it goes before you put time and effort into it just drop a comment below and I’ll let you know.

Cheesy Cauliflower "Bread Sticks"

Oh the wonders of cauliflower. Never having known much about cooking before, I also didn’t know what cauliflower was capable of. Turns out it’s capable of a lot, especially helping me escape from the grasp of the notorious Carb. Just about anything you would normally use flour for, you can use cauliflower for. For starters, you can try it out in this cheesy bread sticks recipe and expand from there.

This weekend make a bet with yourself to try out a single substitution. You can find them everywhere, but Pinterest and Paprika are my favorite channels to surf when on the hunt for better recipes.
